High?Temperature and Chemically Resistant Foams from Sustainable Nanostructured Protein

نویسندگان

چکیده

Covalently crosslinked protein networks produced from whey nanofibrils (PNFs) are demonstrated to be sustainable high-performance foams that show chemical resistance and mechanical strength, stiffness, toughness on harsh aging at 150 °C. The aged able retain their properties 180 °C for as long 24 h, far exceeding the of most classical petroleum-based thermoplastics. further developed into soft by addition glycerol a plasticizer. improvement in performance with aging, which is equivalent an increase one order magnitude modulus yield confirmed associated (iso)peptide crosslinks. results open way using protein-based foam materials severe/corrosive environments such filtration, thermal insulation, fluid absorption. suggested suitable alternatives porous polymers.

Stabilisation of Wet Protein Foams Using Starch Nano-Particles

Protein isolate is used in the food industry in order to process and stabilise food foams. Thereforethere has been a great deal of interest and research in order to understand the effect of processingparameters on the functional properties of the isolate. The major purpose of this research is to studythe foamability of the different proteins - starch nano-particle system. The results from exper...

Frog foams and natural protein surfactants

Foams and surfactants are relatively rare in biology because of their potential to harm cell membranes and other delicate tissues. However, in recent work we have identified and characterized a number of natural surfactant proteins found in the foam nests of tropical frogs and other unusual sources. These proteins, and their associated foams, are relatively stable and bio-compatible, but with i...

‘Laser chemistry’ synthesis, physicochemical properties, and chemical processing of nanostructured carbon foams

Laser ablation of selected coordination complexes can lead to the production of metal-carbon hybrid materials, whose composition and structure can be tailored by suitably choosing the chemical composition of the irradiated targets. This 'laser chemistry' approach, initially applied by our group to the synthesis of P-containing nanostructured carbon foams (NCFs) from triphenylphosphine-based Au ...
